Continuing with my thoughts on the theory of “Multiple Intelligences” by Howard Gardner, I will be elaborating on two other types of intelligences in this post — Interpersonal and Intrapersonal. I will be using examples of projects that the Examination Online team is working on or has worked with companies in developing customized technology solutions to help educators target these intelligences.

This refers to a person’s ability to understand the intentions, emotions, motivations, and desires of other people around them. People with strong Interpersonal Intelligence work effectively with others as they are good at understanding and interacting with them. Hence, they stand out in a crowd and can adapt to social situations. Mahatma Gandhi and Oprah Winfrey are a couple of famous personalities who are noted for their Interpersonal Intelligence.

One of the projects that the Examination Online team has worked on targeting this intelligence has been with VingDirect, a company providing full-service marketing services with a focus on increasing wineries’ direct to consumer sales. We helped develop a learning management system that enables online sales training, coaching and wine club assessments. This helps VingDirect’s users (vineyard employees, wine enthusiasts, etc) improve on their Interpersonal Intelligence, and thus helping them understand their client needs better.

This refers to a person’s ability to understand oneself. People with strong Intrapersonal Intelligence are good at knowing their own emotional states, feelings, and motivations. This type of intelligence can help a person to understand which goals are important and how it can be achieved.

The team at Examination Online worked with mySATadvisor, a leading test preparation company. We built a unique comprehensive online practice and analytics testing platform to help students perform better and score higher on the SAT exam. Once a targeted score is defined by a student before starting preparations, the platform has features for study planning and setting up reminders in order to achieve the goal. Advanced reporting tools further help students in identifying patterns and areas of improvement for self-assessment. Thus, enabling students in effective planning towards achieving their targeted score in the exam.
